Ever eat at Dan's Super Subs in L.A.? I started it from scratch in my 20's in the ultra-competitive Los Angeles restaurant market, and it's still going gangbusters.

When I sold Dan's, the new owners kept the name, the recipe, the design and--to this day--still own the restaurant. They have seen millions of dollars in sales from my original simple idea. Dan's Super Subs has been awarded the "Best Sandwich Shop" in L.A. county many times by the L.A. Times and the Daily News.

30 years in the business

I worked with Rich Snyder, son of Harry and Esther Snyder, the founders of In-N-Out Burger, during his tenure at president. I helped the chain during the first major growth period: We grew the chain from 40 to more than 100 stores. To this day, I have not found a company with better high-level management than In-N-Out Burger. The chain has developed a loyal customer base and has been rated as one of the top fast food restaurants in several customer satisfaction surveys.

Believe me, I have made all the mistakes. I have shared these mistakes as a guest lecturer in the business department at Cabrillo College. Many students have run into me years later and thanked me for the insights I provided. I recently showed a Santa Cruz start up how to save $50K in its first year.
